This is very interesting machine.As it makes a netbook complete. But i think the concept of it being deign and build is OUT! Netbook are for surfing nets and doing simple stuff which have lots and lots of HP(hours of play per-recharge). I personally don’t think this will sell very well and i will rather go for a laptop than this as its price tag is getting closer to a laptop. This is ridiculous!!!!

Why are you complaining? I don’t understand what there is to complain about? You wanted more power, You got it nearly 3x the amount of a standard netbook and for the record i have spoke to asus and this machine is capable of upto 4gb Ram max. In terms of size, I do get what you mean but come on 2 inch is hardly a big difference considering all the upgrades they have to cram in and at this price you cannot complain, If this was a sony or hp it would be double the price so maybe it’s best that asus release it to keep it more affordable and practical for the everyday user. My only jab at this netbook is the thickness, I hope they retain some of the 1008ha’s thin compact seashell design.

For those who are complaining about weight…
3.2 lbs is lighter than the 1.46 kg an asus eeepc 1000he is (according to asus website).

The only complaints I have about the 1201N is price. I want my cheap netbooks! Guess you cant have your cake and eat it.

As a strategy gamer interested in light inexpensive notebooks with decent graphics this looks promising. It’s a little too big and heavy for my tastes. The 768 vertical resolution and Ion graphics makes this better than most netbooks.

This is FANTASTIC! I know a lot of people are against blurring the lines between netbook and notebook but there are tons of people like me > ESL teacher/expat/traveler.
I need a pc for everyday use. It needs to be small enough to take back and forth to work and use on the subway but also good enough to play all my tv shows (all which are now in hd) and occasional games/photoshop to pass the times on airplanes/buses/subway. Also cost is usually an issue when traveling as is communication. Keeping in touch with skype and the integrated video cam makes that even better!
I was sold on the hp 311 but this seems like a much better buy :)

I find this “big netbook” as a conceptual mistakes. As the other fellow said, if I have to carry all that weight and obtain that stamina, I would demand more horsepower.

Maybe Intel is playing with a too heavy hand with this. If the daily use of these devices is totally centered in web apps, maybe smart designed smartbooks (with a sony vaio-p-like configuration) are going to have very good opportunities depending on price.

Nice looking Netbook… or Notebook. If its small enough like say a 11.6″ Netbook then to me would great to get a little extra screen for the same amount of space as a 11.6″. With the ION and Atom 330 it should be very good. I personally would like at least 6 to 7 hours of battery life. I have the Toshiba NB205 also and really like the keyboard and overall. The extra space around the bezel on the Toshiba I think they could of fit a 11.1″ LCD. I haven’t measured it but just looks like it.

but as long as intel makes more money off atom cpus than regular core 2 or i7 cpus, manufacturers will keep on pumping out larger and larger “netbooks”

I believe the attempt to find a middle ground in the netbook and laptop market is a mistake. If I want a netbook, I want a 10 (or less) inch screen, great battery life, reasonable resolution, easy portability and a price of $325 or less. I have no interest in an 12.1 “netbook”, an average processor, so-so battery life, and no dvd drive for $499.00. If I am going to spend that much money, I will buy a laptop. I really believe the manufacturers will lose their niche market by increasing computer size and price while still calling it a netbook.

Same weight as my Toshiba NB205 netbook, which gets around 6 to 7 hours with Windows 7. This should have a bit more oomph as well — especially in the graphics department, although that’s not a huge need for me personally.
