The 1101HA looks very similar, but with a bigger display… and more expensive, of course. It has a different processor too, though.

My initual pairing with my Nokia E61 recognized the E61, but I had to wait for it to download some drivers for Win7. I have not yet downloaded the Nokia PC Suite, but release 7.1.40.1 is Win7 compatible.

I got the ASUS 1005HA-PU17 (10.5 hrs battery life and Windows 7 Starter) a couple of weeks ago and am enjoying it very much.
When I get a chance I will swap out the 1gb RAM chip for the 2gb one. Also considering upgrading to full Windows 7.
I have a question – this is my first laptop/netbook and I’m wondering if I should expect to be able to pair it with my Nokia phone using Bluetooth and access the internet using my 3G network? It worked briefly (I know this because I was away from home and there was no WLAN around), then when I walked away with my phone and came back later and tried to reconnect and couldn’t do it. The netbook troubleshooting said I was missing some drivers.

Samsung NC140 is slow as hell. Is there anything i can do to speed up the performance of this machine? it takes about 50secs to open you tube – videos are also slow on this machine. I have nothing saved on the hard drive and i use internet based programs. I do clean out my memory once a week but it makes no difference.

I am running mcafee as an antivirus and i wonder if this is the route of the problem.

Please can someone advise its driving me nuts (i just bought it)

JACK: The busy circle is part of Chiral Scrolling which let’s you scroll up and down using the right corner of the trackpad.

Carlos, sorry I missed your questions last week. You probably already know this by now, but in case not: you can get the ASUS1005HA and the Toshiba NB205 with Windows 7 as of today. I’m not a fan of glossy plastic so I prefer the Toshiba in that regard.

It’s really going to depend on what the file format is created by your JVC Webcam. Do you know what the file names end with as far as the extension? Meaning: are they a .mov, .m4a, mp4, etc… that’s going to tell me what you’re working with. Thx!

Almost forgot: are you sure there’s an SC card in the slot? It may actually be a “blank” or a piece of plastic that sits in there. If so, it’s not a real memory card. ;)

Kevin, I recently bought a new ASUS 1005 HA laptop….I am trying to play some video that I took recently on my JVC Webcam using my 16GB SanDisk memory card but I keep receiving an error message saying my file can’t be played. How can I play my video clips on my computer? Help! Many thanks! Also, what’s the SD card inserted into the right side of my laptop for? Sorry…I’m just a rookie.

Kevin, I want to buy one for my trip at the end of the month and I cannot decide between the Toshiba or the ASUS, how bad the glossy plastic is?

Do you know if starting next wee they are going to offer them with Windows 7?

Yeah, I have the gimped Best Buy version as well.

Some people are making negative comments about this offerning but keep in mind the retail reach of Best Buy

For most rural folk, buying an ASUS 1005HA in their hometown is a tantalizing proposal that we cannot turn down.

The ASUS 1005HA may be small… really small but do not underestimate the power of 802.11G, 2 logical CPU’s and Windows XP Home in a 1.1Kg package!

A further downside on the HP which the Asus is even more guilty of is the use of gloss plastic. At least on the HP it is confined to the screen bezel and around the keys and on the touchpad. This has got to be one of the worst “features” provided by many Laptop/Netbook manufacturers. Gloss plastic a fantastic magnet for dust and finger prints. What are they thinking? Maybe having your Laptop/Netbook looking second hand in a flash is a clever way of encouraging you to buy a new pristine one sooner :)

Sounds like a good netbook but no thank you. I’ll keep my HP5101. Typing this at 1366 x 768 and it is the only way to go. I was keen on the Sony W but the HP just blows it away. The keyboard is superb. It’s small and light, quite simply the machine is a pleasure to use. Cons are a four cell battery plus a larger size power adapter. But for me the pros more than outweigh any downsides. A major plus the machine comes with XP Pro and Vista Business which I have dual booting, plus I will get Windows 7 on release for a third boot option. Does the Asus offer this? I don’t think so. I’m running Vista Business because I can’t live without Sleep in a portable PC. XP Standby is a poor cousin.
