It’s filing date is Feb 20, 1999.
It acknowledges other prior patents that cover PDA’s used for similar purposes.

The thrust of this patent seems to be that the radio is built in and the device uses a screen larger than that of a PDA. I’d think Apple could brush them off on the screen size but then the reason for the lawsuit might be the rumors of the 10″ tablet said to be coming this summer…
