Well the ACER Aspire 8940G beats all those notebooks with it’s high-performance video card but the Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q850 which has the same one but with DDR5. Keep in mind though you’ll have to pay close $600 more just for that.

This is exactly the type of laptop I'm looking for: a 17"+ screen laptop with at least 1920x1280 resolution (1920x1200 preferred), a backlit keyboard, and a Blu-ray reader. I'd prefer a smaller form factor (i.e. 1" thin) and descent battery life as well. In addition to the Acer, the Dell Studio 17 is looking like the best option, with lower power, smaller size, and longer batter life. The Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q850 is kinda what I'm looking for, but it weighs 10.2 pounds and it's so big that their site doesn't even bother to list dimensions. And maximum battery life is 3 hours with the optional 12-cell battery. The Lenovo W710 won't be out until next February, so not sure how it will compare, but the existing model is very large and power-hungry, so it's not a contender. And the ThinkLight LEDs above the screen are not as nice as a backlit keyboard. What I really want is a 17" MacBook Pro, but Apple obviously doesn't offer Blu-ray yet, in part because no manufacturer is offering a 9.5mm tall slot-loading Blu-ray drive. I'd be happy to perform a drive swap if one were available. But it's only a matter of time; Lenovo just starting shipping 9.5mm-tall tray-load Blu-ray drive with the T400/T500. I may wait and hopefully hack together my own ultimate combination.

Good luck running that for more than an hour. :) Not exactly the highest quality build, but I guess for the price it’s reasonable.

I’ll stick with my Toshiba X305-Q708!

I’ve got the Sony version (AW series)and it’s brilliant. I found a Targus neoprene case with shoulder strap that fits it, but I’ve not seen many others.
