This looks like a very techy solution to an age old problem. Ever since I amazed Pocket PC Techs with the damage done to the motherboard of my iPaq 3850 by snagging my headphone cable back in the day I have been recomending that people use an L-shaped adapter with their headphones if the cable doesn’t already have one.
