Finally, is right, Unlogic. And I ordered one today. According to my sales rep (who might have been trying to make me feel good) I was the first to order one. The ship date is 2/16/08, but when she looked at their inventory they had no SSDs in stock yet, so we'll see! Tony

Fujitsu charges $449 to upgrade a 40GB HDD to 32GB SSD. I'm not sure what the incremental cost is from Sony, but a Vaio TZ with 48GB SSD costs $3400. As painful as it is, $800 for 64GB is probably fair market value right now.

I have already used more than 64 GB on mine after 3 months. I just leave the extended battery attached.

I have two IDE to CF adapters I was going to use on my old ipods, hmmm... nah I will wait until the warranty is up on Tabby before I dismantle her.

Terrific! I've been waiting for this. Now if I could just figure out whether to purchase now or wait for some kind of update on the 2710p, I'll be set. This is good news and when I order I WILL be order it with the SSD.

Pam, if I could afford the $800 or if an organization was springing for the 2710p I would definitely get the SSD. It makes a significant difference in the performance and battery life of any mobile PC.

My university is ordering an HP 2710p for me this week. Is the SSD option really worth the $800 asking price? The hard drive on my TC1100 died, which represented a nice opportunity to upgrade to the 2710p. Given that, I like the idea of an SSD drive. But it's hard for me to think it's worth 800 bucks, realizing that value is in the eye of the beholder. Despite the opinion I've offered, I'm really asking a question.

James, if you like DIY, you can go to Addonics (just Google it) and purchase a CF to IDE adapter that will allow you to use 2 CF cards to replace your hard drive. The cost is about $24 for the adapter. Currently NewEgg has the A-Data 32gb CF cards for $134. It's a start and substantially less than the $800 options (if you just want to give it a try).
