$399 Compaq CQ61 Notebook Goes Where Netbooks Only Tred
HP is blurring the line between notebook and netbook with the CQ61 notebook. The 15.6-inch notebook from the budget Compaq line starts at a price definitely in the netbook range — $399. The CQ61 has what you’d expect inside for that low price, primarily an AMD Sempron processor. It’s not totally bare-bones however, with 2 GB of memory and a 160 GB hard drive at that low price. Consumers considering a netbook strictly based on price might want to give one of these a good, hard look. And those of you who thought the Compaq budget line at HP was dead should note that HP told us that the Compaq brand is a multi-billion dollar line for them globally.

the only netbook i have picked up was the eee 900 on sale, linux version…
anything after that, especially ones HP and dell got their marketing in gear, have been netbook/notebook hybrids at best, with a price to match.
$399 is a joke compared to where asus was supposedly heading with the 701…
For $399 I would rather place that bet on a more decent netbook, seeing that $600 gets me a better-looking notebook with much better specs than this Compaq.
I would stay away from Compaqs though – my old Presario died within two years of purchasing it. Luckily all my other notebooks have held up much better.
We’ve had our Compaq Presario SR1110NX for over 5 years and it is still working very well in every respect. Don’t know why anyone would shy away from that brand at all. We run Windows XP on it and have never had any trouble. It’s been the family’s main computer for Mom’s recipes, two sons college work, and Dad’s web-surfing, genealogy research, and emails for all of us. Keep thinkin’ about looking into something new, but why?
