WWD Coffee Break: Remote Control, PingMe & Feed-Tracking
Cross-platform Remote Control – WebEx PcNow has quietly released version 4.0 of their remote-control application, with a significant new feature for many web workers: it now works on both PCs and Macs (as well as mobile devices). This means that you can use a single service for PC-to-PC, PC-to-Mac, Mac-to-PC, or Mac-to-Mac remote control and connections.
Other new features in this release include the ability to stream a webcam feed remotely from a PC (but not from a Mac), as well as the ability to set up a limited-time guest account for someone to have temporary access to your desktop. Their website hasn’t been updated yet to reflect the new features, but if you work through the signup for the 30-day trial you’ll automatically get the new version. Pricing starts at $12.95 per month.
PingMe Goes Twitter – Automated reminder service PingMe (which we covered a few months back) now offers full Twitter integration. You can create new reminders from Twitter, and you can choose to have your reminders sent to your Twitter account. Twitter seems to be evolving into a sort of “Growl for the Web” as more and more services integrate with it.
Another Pulse of the Internet – It’s way alpha yet, but ReadBurner offers yet another way to tell what your peers out there on the net are paying attention to. Based on a selection of link blogs that share items via Google Reader, it aims to show you the most popular items shared through that channel. Don’t know how accurate it is, but it is doing a good job of pushing up interesting content already.

Consider RSSmeme. It takes ReadBurner and adds:
Tags (pages/feeds), Author (pages/feeds), Source (pages/feeds), Search (pages and yes, searches have feeds too!).
It also finds similar items…so similar users are users who have recently shared the same stories. Similar stories are stories that have recently been shared by the same users.
Lastly; there is no submission page. It crawls the web looking for new accounts to add.
It also appears that as of this moment ReadBurner is not updating but RSSmeme is still chugging along.
