WWD Coffee Break – Recycling, Google & Peas
Another Way to Dispose of Old Electronics – We’ve discussed electronics recycling a few times before. Now a company named Second Rotation has entered the business. Their model is similar to that of BuyMyTronics, who we’ve mentioned previously.
SecondRotation is interested in a wide variety of things, from cell phones to laptops to digital cameras to GPS devices and more. After finding your device on their site, you fill out a form with details such as overall condition and whether you have all the cables, and it comes up with a price for you. If you like the price, accept their quote and they’ll tell you how to pack and ship the device, which they either refurbish or recycle. You won’t get top dollar, but you don’t have to hassle with Ebay either.
Google and Blackberry Sitting in a Tree – Just in case you missed it, there’s now an officially-blessed solution for synchronizing your Google calendar with your Blackberry device. Om Malik has the details and a positive review on our parent site GigaOm.
The Power of Social Media – The Frozen Pea Fund is a new organization raising money for cancer research. What’s interesting is that the whole thing was pulled together as a virtual community effort by folks using Twitter, Flickr, Seesmic, Second Life, and other social tools after prominent Twitterite Susan Reynolds was diagnosed with breast cancer. Any scoffers who think that nothing ever comes of social networking can just be quiet now.

Just make sure when you “recycle” your electronics that the company that is buying them does their part to ensure that people who are pulling the parts off and melting down the boards are providing safe and healthy work environments for their employees. One need only do a search on Google to find all sorts of atrocities committed by companies over in China.
