I require a minimum of three entire days per week where I turn off my phone and retreat from the world so I can meditate, get centered, and blog away wherever I feel inspired at home.

As is evident by the overtone of my blog, I'm all about relaxation and focusing on what's good and positive in life. That helps foster my creativity.

My loved ones know that this is how I am, and they respect this.

When we need to get something bigger done, we usually go to the countryside to an offline location, and do pair programming, as explained here:

Since we were on schedule we went to work in the countryside where we wouldn't be disturbed. Fireplace, a bit of snow, and no Internet connection make it a perfect place for a coding sprint.

I really think that if I tried to get some work done in a cafe I'd be completely distracted people-watching. I do well at home, alone, with a deadline, and quiet or music playing. Even hearing neighbors outside can frustrate me and throw me off. I prefer the laptop, my new macbook, sitting on the couch with my feet on the coffee table.

I'm most productive at home, but I do find when the project is intriguing I can do it anywhere. One of my best was produced almost entirely on a hillside overlooking the Third Beach here in Vancouver. It's critical to line up good places to meet clients that aren't too noisy: seven years of working at Starbucks taught me there are times of the day when that should be your LAST choice. Quiet and privacy are critical, as well as an un-rushed ambiance; I like the upper level of the courthouse downtown, a huge atrium with sofas and coffee tables, and open to the public until 4pm. If the meeting goes long, well there's always the Starbucks across the street!
