I may try just to see if it offers more than Apple Mail (that has Smart Mail boxes that are powerful searches and easy iCal integration) but the To Do function looks very nice.

I can understand about GMail but it would free up your browser from javascript resources piling up with system resources from several open tabs – an email client program may be more efficient.
