Very nice!

I'd like to share a wisdom nugget from one business book summary I recently received from www.bizsum.com.

"Studies have discovered that cohesiveness is directly related to cooperation. When all members of a group cooperate in order for that group to succeed at any task or goal, the cohesiveness of that team can be said to be extremely high. As a matter of fact, the ability to form close friendships at one’s workplace is an excellent sign that the workplace is a productive one."

When Telly Chakkar started, a lot of work used to get done via freelancers. So to manage them and still keep my business in sync with everything i need something that gave me a bird eye view of the business and a feeling of control. So i started using Deskaway when they started. It helped me know what tasks were going where, what was taking up more of my time and it helped me gain main control over the free lancers working with me. They too started collaborating and sharing more. Now some of them are full time workers.

I don't think that each contractor needs to be kept in the dark - its an easy way of ignoring hard facts - a product or a service is an amalgamation of a couple of tightly bound cohesive units. Tools such as DeskAway really help make a couple of freelancers not knowing each other - really tightly knit in terms of their work. And "noise" is not generated because things are pretty neatly laid out (or atleast they can be) and more often than not, minimal explanation is required. Thats the real worth of a powerful collaboration tool - it helps make the product better because of more cohesion. And then if concerns come from contractors - then that noise should be taken positively. Noone likes to be kept in the dark.

Working in a team is great so that you can share information and expertise. Sure, you can use online tools but they will only work if the team members are committed to sharing stuff within them.
Ultimately, it all depends on much each team member is "at stake".
