I love Twitter, but one thing I admit can be lacking from the service is that it doesn’t allow for embedded images, audio or video in the Twitter stream; you can only link to them.

Still, there are plenty of apps to help you to integrate multimedia into your tweets. Here’s a list of handy and easy-to-use services for images, audio and video:

Images

Plixi. Formerly TweetPhoto, this app connects with Twitter or Facebook and is pitched as a “social platform” for images.

TwitPic. This app lets you post pictures to Twitter from your phone, their site and via email. It’s also embedded in many of the popular Twitter clients for mobile devices.

Twitrpix. Another contender that lets you share by photos by phone, web and email.

Twicsy. A search engine for images on Twitter that also allows you to upload images.

yFrog. This tool is looking to give TwitPic some competition in terms of Twitter client integration and also lets you upload video.

Audio

Audioboo. An elegant mobile app and website to record and upload audio and add to your Twitter stream along with images and text.

Chir.ps – A simple website that allows you to upload sound clips. Record, stop recording, listen to your recording, then tweet it with some text.

Tinysong. This app is integrated with Grooveshark to let you tweet out a link to a song MP3, if music is your thing.

Twaudio. Pitched as a “Twitpic for MP3s.” You can upload an existing file, or record one on the fly.

Tweetmic. A Twitter client app for iPhone that enables you to easily record and upload audio clips to create “Tweetcasts.”

Video

Bubbletweet. This app lets you create a video that appears in a bubble over your Twitter stream on your profile.

Pikchur. A tool that enables you to upload video and images to multiple social networks, including Twitter.

Screenr. This is a quick and handy app for instant screencasting into your Twitter stream.

Tvider. A multimedia solution that lets you tweet video, audio or pictures.

Twitcam. This app can stream live video onto Twitter for in-the-moment broadcasting.

There are so many Twitter apps that searching for the best ones can be a time-consuming effort. One helpful resource for Twitter-related applications is OneForty.com, where you can not only search by keyword and category but also get reviews and recommendations from the crowd.

What are your favorite Twitter apps for multimedia tweets?

One of the first things that most people look at before using an app is the feature list. When we look for new tools we’re seeking all the bells and whistles we think are necessary. But extensive functionality doesn’t guarantee that the app will be useful in the way you want it to be. Sometimes, the apps that are perfect in nearly every other way won’t have all the features you want. If this is the case, you have to find more creative uses for the features they do have.

For example, simple to-do list app Ta-da List lacks some of the functionality of its more full-featured competitors, such as the ability to add due dates to tasks. To compensate for this, some users add the due date to the item itself. An alternative, which I use, is to create a new list for each week and add the day to each list item (see below).

As we all have different needs and habits, we’ll find different ways to work around limited functionality. In a blog post about Ta-da List’s “missing” features, a reader commented that he doesn’t add due dates because he sees it as a form of procrastination.

Another example is the “Canned Responses” feature from Gmail Labs. My first impression was that it would just be good for pre-written emails, such as vacation responses. But after seeing how other users made the most of it and by testing it myself, I quickly realized that Canned Responses has more potential uses, including setting up “smart” autoresponders and creating multiple signatures. So instead of needing to search for a complex email app that allows for that kind of functionality, creative use of a simple plug-in will do.

Why go through all this trouble rather than looking for the perfect tool with all the features we want? First, there’s rarely a tool that has everything you’re looking for. Each app has its own pros and cons. While you can make a table listing all the features you want, comparing each app side-by-side, this kind of analysis takes a lot of time and effort. Second, we can often live without many of the features that we think we need.

Finding our own workarounds may take a bit of creativity, but it’s often preferable to switching to a bloated tool that takes more time to learn, download, or get used to. In many cases, it’s more important to find a tool with an easy-to-navigate interface and a quick learning curve that you can start using right away. Instead of spending a lot of time searching for the perfect tool and trying to learn it, wouldn’t you rather start on the work that you need these tools for in the first place?

There are many time management applications out there. So many, in fact, that picking the right one can be tricky; few people have the time to try out more than a handful to find the right match. In this “Tips from the Trenches” post, experts share their favorite time management applications and why they chose them. Maybe they can give you some ideas of apps that might suit your working style.

Applications For Individuals

@wordpost — Andrew Swenson

Google Calendar + Tasks because it’s free, easy to use, and syncs up everywhere (including on my iPhone).

@maryshaw — Mary Shaw

I use iCal for time management because it syncs with my iPhone and I set reminders to beep me at all hours. It’s a lot of beeping.

@nickf — Nick Finck

I have iCal running on Google Calendar with Teux Deux for task level stuff. It just works well. Simple, easy to use.

iCal comes with Macs and lets you keep separate calendars; you could have one for work, one for each client, one for home and another for school.

@Jchristopher — Jonathan Christopher

I chose OmniFocus after going back and forth between it and Things for at least two months. I became more attached to certain higher level features of OmniFocus, and came to realize that a preference between the two is simply of a personal nature from designer to designer. Some people feel differently, but I’m actually a huge fan of the OmniFocus interface design and find that it caters to the complexity (or simplicity) you prefer.

OmniFocus and Things are also Mac applications.

@gregpincus — Greg Pincus

My favorite time management app is old-school: the timer/alarm clock. (I use it on my iPhone to make it cool) :-) I have a broad schedule and my issue isn’t where, but how much. Blog reading could be three hours if I didn’t time it.

@arikhanson — Arik C. Hanson

I like Remember the Milk because of its full integration with Google and phone.

Remember the Milk is a nice task management web app. However, it works with Google Calendar and has iCal feeds available for those who want to tie tasks to a calendar for time management. The app can send reminders and notifications through many avenues including IM, Twitter and email.

@anoop_sahgal — Anoop Sahgal

I use Outlook for both professional and personal uses, and it syncs with my phone. Since Outlook is already set up on everything, it worked for me.

Applications For Teams

@gregmcqueen — Greg McQueen

I use Backpack from 37Signals for just about everything — writing included. It’s simple. 37Signals designed it so you don’t need to read a manual on how to use it. They succeeded.

Backpack is another popular web app.

@stenoknight — Mirabai Knight

I like ididwork.com (Twitter-style task logger) and ManicTime. I use it because of the efficiency of Twitter, plus privacy and weekly reports, without having to set my actual Twitter feed to private. Accountability is key.

Ididwork is a web app that has team-based features, reports and tagging. ManicTime is a Windows app that collects computer usage data and provides graphic reports.

@prchicago — Toni Antonetti

Love SmartSheet — it helps track projects for clients and team. It lets us share project sheets with clients, input time and info in web form that goes into Smartsheet and it’s easier than emailing spreadsheets.

SmartSheet is a web apps that works similarly to Backpack, in that it tracks individual work, lets you collaborate with a team and updates clients. It also includes tools for sales management, marketing and human resources.

Two Things Consider in Your Decision

Many things can factor into your search for the ideal time management application. You can narrow the list by looking at two things:

Team or individual: Do you need an app solely for your own use, or do you need to manage a team or update clients?

Type of application: Do you need a web app that you can access from anywhere? A desktop app that can automatically collect time tracking data of all of your activities? A mobile app that you can use from your phone?

What time management app do you use? How did you choose?

The BlackBerry apps I use for Twitter activities generally do a fine job. I use the no-frills Blackbird for its performance and Ubertwitter for its features. Still, I watch out for new Twitter apps because innovation knows no end and developers find ways to make an app more usable and faster.

Seesmic, known for its desktop and web-based Twitter apps, recently updated its feature-rich Seesmic for BlackBerry client, which was first released late last year. It has potential, despite several uncooperative features.

The Good

Twitter has added a few new features since we published our roundup of free BlackBerry Twitter apps, such as lists and saved searches. Seesmic includes both in its BlackBerry app.

Twitter Lists in Seesmic BlackBerry

Any saved searches you have on your Twitter account appears in the Seesmic menu, a feature not present in Ubertwitter. You can also save new searches in Seesmic, which are carried over to your Twitter account.

Seesmic BlackBerry shows saved searches

Seesmic’s search, reply and all other basic features get the job done, taking about the same time and effort as in the average BlackBerry Twitter tool. You can “Quote” someone’s tweet, which is an editable retweet, or select “RT” to automatically retweet a message without edits. Seesmic comes with picture previews in the timeline when someone links a picture using yFrog, Twitpic and tweetPhoto. However, previews appear to be limited to these three services because images from Flickr and img.ly don’t appear in the timeline.

The Bad

A video on Seesmic’s web site shows how its notifications work, which should let you know when you receive @replies and direct messages. Notifications never worked for me. To be fair, I ruled out the possibility that it was the fault of my BlackBerry Curve 8310 or my AT&T network by verifying that notifications worked in Ubertwitter — and they did.

Seesmic appears in the camera’s photo viewer menu, but sending a photo using this option did not work for me, even though it spends a long time uploading the photo. Nothing happens. No URL to the photo appears. Next, I tried posting the photo using all of the three available photo services and none worked. I even took a photo from within Seesmic and that failed, too. Again, I switched over to Ubertwitter and tested the same feature at the same time using tweetPhoto to send a photo — and it worked.

I mentioned both issues on Twitter and someone from Seesmic responded saying the features worked fine for him. I kept trying over several days and saw no change. If you have a different BlackBerry and/or network, you still might have better luck with Seesmic for BlackBerry. It’s a free app, so doesn’t cost you anything but time to try it. If all the features had worked, it’d definitely be a viable option for those seeking a feature-rich Twitter application for BlackBerrys.

Which mobile Twitter application do you use, and why?

I encounter so many web apps over the course of any given day that some tend to get lost in the mix, especially the oddball little applications that do something that isn’t in my standard workflow. That doesn’t mean I don’t appreciate how useful and creative those apps are, just that I end up setting them aside to come back to later.

So here I’m going to give those apps a chance to shine, because even if I can’t personally use them during the course of my day-to-day business, it’s entirely possible that many of you can. Accordingly, here are four oddball little web applications that do things you may not even have realized you wanted one to do in the first place.

Create Your own YouTube with Fliggo

As the prevalence of video on the web continues to grow, it makes sense that video social networking should grow, too. And since there are already numerous apps that allow you to create your very own social network, it also makes sense that one should also exist to help you create your own social video site.

Fliggo (covered by Liz over on NewTeeVee last year) allows you to do just that. It’s a smart, simple, easy-to-use and visually stunning platform for easy construction of a video sharing site of your very own. It works well whether you want to set up a home for a series of instructional training videos for your workplace or client, or if you just need a place for the family to gather and share home videos online.

Design Your Space with Floorplanner

My brother recently had to create a plan of the tenant apartment he recently put into the basement of his new house. Part of the process required that he submit a floorplan of the converted space to the city for licensing purposes. Neither of us are good at AutoCAD, so we had to look around for another solution.

Floorplanner does just what we needed. You can map out your space and design the layout of furniture, fixtures, etc. quickly and painlessly. Everyone from office managers to interior decorators can probably find a great use for this.

Put Your Heads Together with ResearchGate

I’m no scientist, but that hasn’t stopped me from always wanting to be one. Sure, I took basically the opposite career path and went into English, but I still like to think that I have a fairly scientific mind.

If that mind were properly trained, I’d use it to contribute to the community at ResearchGate. It’s a social network designed specifically for professional scientists, so that they can connect, share findings, and form mutually beneficial partnerships and research teams. If you’re actually working in a scientific field, it’s well worth checking out.

Get Everyone Together and Active with TeamSnap

I never really used to like team sports all that much growing up, but now I play in two dodgeball leagues two nights a week. It’s a great way to meet people, stay active, and just have fun, and the range of athletic ability means everyone can participate.

Managing a team for coed, intramural or beer league sports can be a tricky thing. Tracking down team members, arranging and sharing game time and location information, and keeping track of who’s paid what and who’s in need of equipment or uniforms or things like that can all present quite a challenge. TeamSnap takes a lot of that trickiness out of the process, and there’s a free plan, so it works on any budget.

There are some great little gems hidden out there in the world wide web. It can be hard to sift for diamonds, though. I try to note as many promising ones as I can, and hopefully the ones I’ve passed on today will help some of you out there in your personal and professional pursuits.

Found a hidden gem of an app recently? Let us know about it!

The sound of cheers swell across the nation: Today, Vista users can finally dump the clunky and sluggish operating system for Windows 7. Praise for the new version has already started coming in from early adopters and reviewers.

When I bought my laptop recently, I couldn’t downgrade Vista for Windows XP, as I would have liked. But it had everything else I needed. Knowing Windows 7 would arrive within months, I made the sacrifice — and it turned out to be a worthy one. Here are some of the reasons why I’m happy I’ve made the upgrade to Windows 7.

Install

Before installing, I ran the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to make sure my laptop was ready for the upgrade. It caught a few things related to the laptop itself; all easily fixed. After addressing the issues, I did a final run of the Upgrade Advisor to ensure everything cleared.

Next came the tough part: actually upgrading. I gulped as I kicked off the upgrade festivities. Upgrading took over an hour along with several required restarts before I finally met Windows 7 face-to-screen. The laptop and I survived. Everything that was on my machine before the upgarade remained intact, except it had fewer pinned programs and Quick Launch applications. Windows 7 scores with its smooth and uneventful install.

Exploring the Redesigned Taskbar

The first thing to notice, apart from the snazzy Aero interface, is that the Quick Launch toolbar and system tray have both received a serious makeover. They both remain in their usual spots, with Quick Launch to the right of the “Start” button and the system tray in the lower right-hand corner of the screen. But the Quick Launch toolbar no longer has a little popup. Instead, all of your Quick Launch icons appear in full view. If a Quick Launch application is open, its Quick Launch icon turns into a taskbar right where its icon lives. That took some adjustment for me to get used to.

Windows XP Quick Launch

Windows 7 Quick Launch

Ready to peek, shake ‘n snap? One feature I loved on previous versions of Windows: show desktop. It used to be an icon in the Quick Launch popup. In Windows 7, it’s known as “Aero Peek” and it works even better. It’s the tall rectangle button by the system tray next to the clock. Click, and — whoosh — all the windows shrink so I can see the desktop. Or move your mouse over the button to have all the windows fade away until the pointer moves away. That’s two nice options for revealing the desktop.

If you have a bunch of windows open and want to minimize all of them except one, you can do the Aero Shake. No, it’s not a new dance craze. Rather, you select the window you want to keep open and shake it. Everything else will disappear to the taskbar. If you work with two monitors or box multiple windows side-by-side, this new feature will save you loads of time.

To Snap, drag the window to any edge of the screen to instantly resize the window. It’ll expand vertically or horizontally depending on the edge of the screen you snap it to. You don’t have to mess with resizing and it gives you another option to open up the window without maximizing.

The system tray works like the old Quick Launch toolbar. Rather than a handful of icons appearing and then pressing the < button to see the rest, you can turn off (hide) system icons as well as control the notification area icons. For example, Network is a notification area icon. You can show its icon, hide it or only show notifications. While you could control this in past versions, this set up makes it easier and adds the extra option of “only show notifications” not present before.

Windows XP System Tray

Windows 7 System Tray

The flexibility and new options in system tray and Quick Launch is great if you who like an organized desktop. The Aero Peek, Shake and Snap features also add a drop of fun into the operating system.

Built-in Photo Editing

It looks like Microsoft — with Windows Live Photo Gallery — wants to step on the toes of photo management and editing apps like Google’s Picasa. The gallery not only lets you organize and manage all your photos, but also edit and post them online using your Windows Live Account right from within the application. Its editing features include auto adjust, resize, red-eye correction and all the usual staples found in any other photo application. If you work with photos all the time, you’ll probably prefer to use your existing tools, but if you only work with photos occasionally having these features on tap is very useful.

Windows 7 Live Gallery

Backup and Restore

Backup and Restore looks like a great feature for those who have a DVD, external or network drive for saving backups. However, I haven’t tested this feature because Windows 7 won’t connect to the external hard drive, even though it sees it. Windows likes to save personal data in different places — not just in “My Documents” and “My Media” — and the built-in backup functionality knows just what to save. This feature will make it easier for the non-techie user to protect their data.

Windows 7 Backup

Search

Windows 7 takes searching to a new level. Hit the Start button and enter words into the search box. It’ll search files, documents, emails and more, or take you to Windows Explorer for more search options and filters. Of all the new features in Windows 7, the lightweight easy-to-use Search surprises me the most — in a good way.

Windows 7 Search

Performance

Performance is noticeably faster in Windows 7 than in Vista — that includes things like working with devices like USB thumb drives, too. Improved performance for both memory and USB devices alone puts Windows 7 miles ahead of Vista. Despite the heaviness of the default Aero interface — part of it the fault of not having a higher-scoring graphics card in my laptop — and a couple of other quibbles, Windows 7′s improved performance and new features make it worth dumping Vista for good.

However, will I upgrade my Windows XP computer to Windows 7? Not anytime soon. XP still works fine for me, and I’ll wait until Microsoft addresses any kinks in Windows 7 before upgrading.

Are you upgrading to Windows 7?

Like many web workers, one of my challenges is keeping my data in sync between the various devices and apps that I use. I stopped using my Palm handheld over a year ago, but I’ve continued to use the Palm Desktop application, because it’s one of the easiest-to-use and most mobile-friendly applications ever, even though I now have a BlackBerry. Finding a solution that can keep my data in sync between Palm Desktop, my BlackBerry and the other apps that I use has been difficult.

For a while, I’d sync Outlook and Palm Desktop, and then Outlook would update the BlackBerry (I didn’t actually use Outlook at all, it just acted as the middleman). It worked great. But then my dependence on Google Calendar grew, because I could access it from any computer as well as my BlackBerry, and it wouldn’t work with my sync setup.

I investigated many tools and synchronization applications to find a perfect sync solution. I didn’t want to use lots of different applications to syncing needs.

The almost perfect solution was to find a dedicated synchronization app. Mine comes from CompanionLink. This method cuts out Outlook for good. CompanionLink now has a Google edition available that synchronizes all of Palm Desktop’s features with Google, too. For updating my BlackBerry, I use Google Sync for Mobile. It’s still not perfect, but it works and I can access and update my information in Google or Palm, while my BlackBerry just has access to the information.

If you’re struggling to find the perfect syncing app, here are some options (some free and some paid):

Chapura: PocketMirror has been around for a long time, and syncs Palms with Outlook. Its Echo and PocketMirror work with Palm Pre.

CompanionLink: Syncs Google, Palm Pre, ACT!, LotusNotes, Outlook and many others.

Google Sync: free Google syncing applications for Mac, Linux, Android and others.

gSyncit: Syncs Outlook and Gmail.

Mark/Space: Sync apps for Macs.

Sync’Em: Connects Macs with Exchange and Outlook.

I like my orange juice freshly squeezed, but there are some good things that come from Concentrate. From the new app, that is, not the distilled juice essence. Concentrate is a new program that seems perfectly designed for aspiring singletaskers. It aims to reduce distraction and boost productivity by doing the work of various other separate applications, united under one well-designed roof. While the smart-looking launch page might have you thinking this is a web app, it’s actually a downloadable native OS X app program; Windows users will have to look elsewhere for help silencing the static.

What Concentrate provides is different than most apps, though, in that it takes as its core philosophy reduction, rather than addition or enhancement. It’s basically like a task scheduler that works similarly to Automator actions in order to provide you with efficiency-boosting shortcuts to setup programs, block web sites, and run and kill apps, all of which lets you focus on the task at hand.

What Do You Want to Do?

That’s the question that drives Concentrate.The idea is that you set up “Activities,” each of which is comprised of a number of individual processes or sub-actions. An Activity could be something like, say, “Work on Novel,” in which case your the sub-actions could be to kill your Twitter client, block Facebook, set your iChat status to Do Not Disturb, and open WriteRoom. You can do that for an indefinite period of time, or if you like to set aside two hours a day for novel writing, you can add a timer to the Concentrate activity that will automatically remove the restrictions on what sites you can use when your chosen amount of time expires.

In practice, Concentrate works as I expected it to, and also performs some unexpected handy tricks, like hiding all open apps not directly mentioned in any of the sub-actions associated with the activity that’s running. It also has some preset categories of web sites to block, including a social networking group that probably eliminates 75 percent of the causes of my procrastination. Unfortunately, when it kills applications, you can always just reopen them. It’d be nice if you could actually block an app from opening at all, but I’m not even sure if OS X would allow that.

It’s The Little Things

Concentrate not only provides OS X users with an extra jolt of willpower, it does so with style. Little features, like being able to play a sound to signal the start or end of an activity, or continually throughout (a ticking sound in the example activity), or the option to customize the icon for each activity, really make me feel like Concentrate is something worth paying for. You might be able to duplicate most of the app’s functionality by creating your own Automator actions, but you couldn’t do it nearly as elegantly or with as much efficiency.

You can also integrate your own Automator actions directly in Concentrate, in case there are things the program can’t do on its own. A convenient menu bar icon allows you quick access to all of your activities, without having to access the main window, and Application Groups allow you to kill multiple apps at once, the same way you can with web sites.

Concentrate is free to try for 60 hours, which should give you plenty of time to determine whether or not you enjoy taking your marching orders from a piece of software. After that initial period, it’ll cost you a $29 one-time fee for a license, which comes complete with a money back guarantee according to their site. It might be a small price to pay if you’re having a hard time blocking out distractions on your own.

Do you use software to achieve singletasking nirvana, or do you rely on willpower alone?

There’s less and less reason to fork over the expensive license fee for a full version of Adobe Acrobat these days. The web is littered with free, lightweight options that will allow you to do pretty much anything you’d want to do with Acrobat. Web app PDFVue is a relative newcomer to the field, and it brings a lot of useful PDF editing features to the table for the budget-conscious web worker.

Right away I was attracted to PDFVue because of its Firefox integration. Currently, the feature is still in testing, so you’ll have to have a free Mozilla.org account to use it. You can then download the Firefox PDFVue plugin, which opens PDF links in a new tab in PDFVue, instead of trying to launch Acrobat or Preview, both of which cause headaches and hang-ups on my MacBook from time to time.

PDFVue offers editing and annotation of files directly in your browser. You have text selection and annotation tools, and a variety of viewing options. You can automatically zoom the document to fit the page, although PDFVue is missing a fullscreen reading view, which would be greatly appreciated.

It may not have all the nice-to-haves of a fully-featured app like Acrobat, but it does all the necessary bits, like commenting. You can tweak your comments as desired, including changing the font and text color and size, comment box color and border, and whether or not the comment will show up on a printed copy of the document. You can also add links wherever you want, and attach sticky notes. Any markup you add shows up in the summary in the right-hand menu so that you, or anyone else, can quickly jump to it.

You can also create and edit forms using PDFVue. Clicking the “Forms” tab will give you access to checkboxes, text fields, radio buttons, drop-down menus, and submit buttons. It’s not as full-featured as Adobe Acrobat Pro’s own form creation tool, but it’s enough to get the job done if you just want to throw together something simple quickly.

Of course, you can save and download any PDF file made or edited in PDFVue, and share it with others via an automatically generated unique URL. All in all, it’s a handy little tool, and a nice, lightweight alternative to desktop-based options. Check it out if, like most web workers, you find yourself running into a lot of PDFs in the course of your daily web work.

What do you use for working with PDFs?

Stop me if you’ve heard this one before: a client wants you to transfer a project, including your intact file structure, remotely over the internet. FTP is an easy solution, right? If you have the space, and if your client is web-savvy enough to know what an FTP client is and how to use it.

If, on the other hand, your client hasn’t used FTP before and isn’t the most tech-oriented person in the world, transferring project folders with complicated file structures can quickly become an ordeal for all parties involved.

Zapr attempts to bypass the messy stuff and make it easy for you and your client or business partner to connect and share. The application allows you to share files quickly and easily, and installation is required on the original sharer’s PC only. It allows you to generate web links that direct others to files or folders stored locally on your computer.

You can specify whether the content is public, or private (which requires a password), but in both cases users can access the information by following a unique, randomly generated url based on your user name. You can email this link to people you want to share content with, or use the link in any HTML-capable environment, like in webpages or on blogs.

Any content you share as public will be available from your personal Zapr address, which is always http://username.zapr.com. Here’s an example of what a shared folder looks like (it’ll be active as long as my computer is on, which is almost always): http://etherin.zapr.com/9919221a90cdf718

Zapr does not restrict file type or size at all, which means that pretty much anyone who wants to share any kind of information might find some use for the service.

For instance, embedding a link to a directory in a PDF is a great way to provide ready access to appendices if you’re putting together an internal company manual or guidebook. Document size and clutter can be reduced in any given application by sharing non-essential components through Zapr rather than including them as attachments. Give clients the option to see more behind the curtain by including a link to a drafts folder with your final mock-up.

A number of functions allow you to easily integrate Zapr into your existing network. You can add contacts, either manually or through bulk imports from Outlook and webmail clients (Live Mail and Gmail). Distribution lists allow you to quickly grant access to muliple people at once, so you can easily control access across multiple project teams.

Of course, there are always catches. Zapr is only available for Windows 2000 and above, meaning no Mac support. Mac users can still use Zapr links and access shared files, though, so in that sense the application is somewhat cross-platform.

Also, the PC hosting the shared files and folders must be on in order for the link to work, since Zapr does not actually host any of the shared files. Finally, in order to do what I described at the beginning of this article, you have to zip or otherwise archive the folder, since folders themselves cannot be downloaded via Zapr uncompressed.

Despite its shortcomings, if you’re a PC user with a frequent need for quick, painless remote sharing that just works, Zapr is the tool for you. Get it free at zapr.com.
