Hey Ryan,
I'm really liking Flotate, I'm always impressed at the UI's that are now being created in Javascript that would normally have required tonnes of Flash or embedded plugins.

What is the performance like on Opera and IE8? Also, how is jQuery working out for you?

Thnx

@Ryan,

You may want to check your browser testing as it is detecting IE8 as IE6.

For my blog covering the iPhone I test using Firefox and Safari because that's what my readers use. For our corporate site, we test on Windows (FF3, IE6, IE7, IE8 as the Tier 1 browsers, Safari 4 and Chrome 3 as our Tier 2 browsers) and on the Mac (FF3 and Safari 4 only). Sadly, we get half of all visits to our corporate site from IE and of those IE visits, more than a third are still on IE6. In short, these are corporate users which are part of our targeted user base, so we have to swallow the pill and keep testing on various versions of IE. BTW, same is true with Flash - a third of all corporate users are still on Flash 8 and in some countries, Flash 7 or even Flash 6.

Good question. We started out with only Firefox, then we moved onto Safari, then IE 8 and finally we now support IE 7. Although we don't test for IE 7 very often.

Our site is a really cool site to measure browsers/OS against. We do a lot of animation in javascript, and thus the browser must process everything from the animation commands to the graphic rendering. Safari is super fast on our site, because (I am guessing here) they pump the visual rendering of the browser right down to the graphics card, which other browsers don't do as well. However, with the update of Snow Lepord you can tell that Mozilla gets to use more of the mac graphics card. It's been fun working on our site and checking out all these differences.

Our site is http://flotate.com, you should check it out cause it is awesome.
