Eight Top Mobile Phone Applications
There are now so many applications for mobile phones that it’s getting tough to decide which ones to use. In this post, I’ll round up eight applications that I’ve found to be very useful. Most of them are free, or nearly free.
Viigo. Viigo is a very nice little program for Windows Mobile users who want to organize and customize news and RSS feeds. It’s also easy to forward interesting content to people in your address book.
Link GMail to Your Phone. If you use GMail and haven’t already linked it to your mobile phone, the process could not be easier. Just click the Get Started Now button on this page and Google will send a link to your phone.
1-800-GOOG-411. Google’s 1-800-GOOG-411 phone number is extremely useful whenever you need to find, say, a certain type of business, restaurant or local service provider. It does voice recognition, so you can just say “falafel San Francisco” to get started on drilling down to a nearby falafel place. Also, when you arrive at a phone number you want to call, the service will connect you free of charge. Also, on any call to the service, if you just say “text message” the service will send you a text message with the information you chose to retrieve and a map.
Mobile Master. Mobile Master is a great little tool for synchronizing your phone with software applications, including Outlook, Outlook Express, Windows address book, Windows contacts, Lotus Notes, Thunderbird/Sunbird, Palm Desktop, and more. You can also use it to synchronize your iTunes playlist with your phone. It’s free to try and just under $30 if you like it.
MobiMB. Got a Nokia phone? If so, MobiMB is a great file manager you can download, and you can use it with other phones via Bluetooth. It has a Windows-like file and directory structure, and lets you easily set wallpapers and ringtones. You can also use it to download games, organize photos and more. MobiMB costs just under $30 if you like it, but there is a free trial.
Anvsoft Mobile Video Converter. The Anvsoft Mobile Video Converter application lets you take videos from your camcorder and convert them to formats that will run on your cell phone. It has a very fast encoding engine and supports most cell phones. There’s a free trial, but it’s $19.95 if you like it.
Yahoo! Go for Mobile. Especially if you use Yahoo! Mail, Yahoo! Go for Mobile is essential. It lets you use your Yahoo! Mail account flexibly on your phone, do Web searches, and more. You know how mobile phone browsing becomes annoying when you get lots of hard to read links back after a search? Yahoo! Go lets you use its One Touch oneSearch mobile search feature to get instant answers instead of links.
TellMe. TellMe has several useful services for mobile phone users. If you call their 1-800-555-TELL line and say “Business Search” you can track down businesses through a voice recognition system. You can also send text searches to 83556 with requests like “pizza Los Angeles CA” and TellMe will send you back pizza options.

My older Motorola Razr has a so-so browser that is fine for phone numbers or text web sites, but not much else. It was frustrating until I discovered the Opera Mini browser:

It runs great on my phone, doesn’t take much longer to load than the standard browser, and allows me to view more websites, news blogs, etc., than the regular phone browser.
If you’ve got room, upload both Opera Mini 3, and the Mini 4 Beta 2, which offers more in the way of navigation and usability. Both allow me to access Google Reader and the customized Google Personal home page.
Yeah I use operamini4 (beta) on my nokia and its just awesome. It works like the iphone browser …but on any phone (well almost any phone)
Opera Mini 4 Beta is the greatest mobile web browser to hit my Blackberry. I use it constantly and yes — it looks a lot like the zoomable and highly loved iPhone browser when it comes to an ability to render a page. I also enjoy using the GMail application as it provides me a quick and simple way of checking my personal email all day long.

I love posts like this. Mobile apps make it so much easier to access information while on the go.
One more app is Nutsie which allows you to stream your iTunes music list to your phone though a data plan. I wrote a review of it on my website or you can just go directly to the site .
FRING gives me the possibility to phone for free to most of the world as long as I am in a wifi-zone. In FRING I can use Skype, Google, MSN and more. But also I install my home phone (IP) as SIP and use all that service for free when I am in wifi-zone.
