I would be totaly lost if I didn't have access to my email or the news. But I do have my most important email sent to my phone and I can check the rest on my phone via web access. I also rely on my phone to connect me to the net when I'm away from the office with my laptop. My office is in my home so I don't have alternate internet access besides office, cell, and the Starbucks that's walking distance from my office. Honestly, I try to keep my most vital data on my computer that is backed up daily. I do have my employees database on our servers and that is backed up daily on the server level and weekely on a personal computer. So I guess I am kind of protected. My cell phone is what I rely on extremely heavily and if that was gone I would be lost.

I commute four hours a day, at least half of that by train. Access to the Internet along the way would cost far more than it's worth to me, and I actually prefer to do without. The train gives me two hours in which I can work on my laptop withOUT the constant temptation to check my email, check headlines, check RSS feeds... I get a lot of writing done, and, since my site is mostly HTML (maintained via DreamWeaver) rather than a blog, I can work on pages and then upload them when I get to the office or home.

It's a pity I didn't have this commute when I was studying for my MBA with the Open University - It would have been perfect time for studying!
