I'm glad this experience was so positive for you. You definitely hit the nail on the head when you spoke of people feeling intimidated by the idea of career counseling. It's an apprehension I often encounter as a coach; partly because people think they know what the process entails, but really don't, and partly because people forget that no one (whether counselor or coach, etc.) is out to do something to them, but are committed instead to working with them as they gain clarity and new insights about themselves and their situation in order to work more effectively on achieving specific, self-defined goals.

It sounds like you had a positive experience. I have heard many people say that career counselors don't help. As one, I'm biased, but I can't help but think that we do good work.
All the best!

As a career counselor, I'm glad you had a good experience. The role of career counseling in a job search or in career planning is often misunderstood. It sounds like you got just the help we try to give our clients to find career direction.

Good luck with your career aspirations!
