Perhaps like some of the other readers here I have friends that went for career counseling years ago and they are happy in their careers. It is so imporant for career counselors to keep in touch with current trents and avialability of work.

I'm glad this experience was so positive for you. You definitely hit the nail on the head when you spoke of people feeling intimidated by the idea of career counseling. It's an apprehension I often encounter as a coach; partly because people think they know what the process entails, but really don't, and partly because people forget that no one (whether counselor or coach, etc.) is out to do something to them, but are committed instead to working with them as they gain clarity and new insights about themselves and their situation in order to work more effectively on achieving specific, self-defined goals.

It sounds like you had a positive experience. I have heard many people say that career counselors don’t help. As one, I’m biased, but I can’t help but think that we do good work.
