I’ve been using Mozy for a few years now and love it. Backups aside, it is so nice to be in an office, realize I needed the source code I worked on a while back, go up to mozy’s site, and bring down the entire project folder.

I’ve used carbonite for a while now – on a pc – and I love it. It makes me want a much faster upload speed so that I can actually upload the data faster than I can create it.

Mainly I’m using it as a back up for pictures – which are backed up locally as well.

I’ve tried them all and while they install and run fine, try needing to restore a file… it can take days.

I moved on and got a time capsule… it’s fantastic.

I’d recommend Mozy @ $5 a month. I’ve been running it for 6 months and I almost forget it’s there, but it’s cheap insurance.

I would never let go of my data to any “cloud” service. More than enough of my data is already floating around the planet without my permission and none of these people should be trusted.

I tried Jungle Disk but while the customer service was fast and great, the software itself seemed too clunky.

I recall setting up JD and the time it took to upload to Amazon servers. My collegue downloaded dropbox (he’s a basic tech user), installed it, uploaded a 20MB folder, shared it with me. I installed Dropbox, accepted invite and boom – we were good to go!

unfortunately, JD had only done a small backup by that time.

Dropbox was in, end of story.

Today, my non-tech savvy boss loves Dropbox. We’re all in different countries and he loves how it. just. works.

Mozy has a Mac version. They also offer 2 GB of free space, handy if you just want to back up important files.

For backing up multiple computers – there’s no real need if you are already syncing files. I use Dropbox and Foldershare and simply back up my main PC – not for everyone I know but I don’t think there is an automatic need to back up every PC you have. Both Mozy and Carbonite have worked fine for me – set and forget which is the secret to backing up I think.
