I’m quite flinty when it comes to friending people on Facebook. My rule is pretty basic. I’ve had to at the least met the person once and actually liked them. I do this because what I really like about Facebook is that instead of of the typical wacky internet personae you find on other sites, it’s the real people I know using their real names and posting real pictures of themselves. And because most of my friends are roughly all in mid to late their thirties, it’s more pics with their children and less with beer-bongs… I also have a Live Journal account and with that, my rule is almost the opposite. I tend to write about stuff I’d rather not have my business customers or even friends know about. I’m far too private of a person to generally share such explicit details. So the friends I have on LJ are all in imaginary realm that is the online world. I don’t even bother with MySpace anymore.

Very well said! As someone who’s dying to get more Twitter followers, I still am as hesitant as you to follow just to be followed back. Let people follow you bc they enjoy what you’ve got to say. Although, my Facebook/Twitter ratio is almost 6 to 1, something I’d like to improve on, I’ll let my tweets speak for itself.
