I would say that I am "hyperconnected" and I most certainly don't have 9 devices. OK, let me count. 1) work desktop. 2) home desktop 3) cell phone. 3.5) sometimes a laptop or MID

(Although, I'd like to ALWAYS have an MID. They're like crack for my geekish heart.)

The reason that I'd label myself hyperconnected despite the lack of device numbers is how and when I use those devices. I'm connected to the Net ALL DAY LONG. I make calls via regular cell tech or voip (fring on my phone, Skype on the desktop). I talk to my kids (9, 16, 18) throughout the day on IM and SMS. Most of my relationships are online first, in person second -- whether they are social or business.

I'd also consider the non-geographical nature of personal connections as a part of hyperconnectivity. If you work with people in different states (or countries) on a regular basis, if your friends span the globe, AND YOU KEEP IN TOUCH CONSISTENTLY through network-enabled tools (email, voip, Twitter, blogs, Facebook, etc), then all of those are signs of hyperconnectivity, too.

If the research is based on "cluster analysis of communications and connectivity habits", then they've missed a very important point - mobile phones. The mobile phone today has gone beyond voice communication to that of sms, emails, connecting to the net, content downloads, entertainment, gaming and yes, listening to MP3s.

Agreed, I don't find any of these tools to be very innovative. WiFi has been around in stable form since 2002, and my freaking grandparents listen to MP3s.

I get the impression that the authors of this report aren't very tech savvy themselves.
