Comments on: Are Blog Comments Worth It?

My market (ie, the people I’m really writing for) don’t actually leave comments – most of the comments are left by fellow bloggers. All in all, I still think it’s worth it, but you have to wonder really. I think that if Engadget can pull it off good for them, but for the majority of us comments are more than worthwhile.

I am new to blogging for my business yet I can see the difference. The comments are necessary as (Brandon Cox) has pointed out so eloquently. Also, Heather points out some inportant facts about fellow bloggers vs. the actual people she is writing for.

New comments encourage more people to post. As long as they have read the article and can contribute then i would think any comments are welcome. Must be nice to get a thankyou and some feedback, for taking the time and effort to write an article. There are now a lot of blog sites so finding good ones are getting harder.

I think that comments add a lot of value to a blog post, as long as the bad ones are weeded out.Its very true, commenting on the blog, shows your participation, in this arena of information sharing.

If think blog comments are worth it, because we need to trade information to evolve as humans. If you look at our history, there is a clear link between levels of communication with ratio’s of cultural development.

Blog commenting is a crucial part of social media. It brings dozens of facts and opinions together on one page. Blogs and other sites that do not allow commenting are limiting their readers to only one viewpoint.

I think the biggest problem for comments is now the bots that are out there and automatically posting random text to link build… however the actual purpose of allowing comments is to encourage opinion and input from a global user base…!

Keep the comments, add a “captcha” thing to stop spammers!

Some people would not like people to comment on their sites is because they prevent from spamming and some scare to get criticizes. i agree as what u think, receive comment will be more formal.A blog without a comment did not look like a formal blog.

At our site we deliberately do not accept comments to our articles. THere is so much spam (although you can keep free of most). And besides this there are enough places to discuss content. i.e. social networks like facebook/myspace

I think that comments add a lot of value to a blog post, as long as the bad ones are weeded out. I like systems where you can vote comments up or down. One of our local newspapers does it that way, and it cuts down on the pointless/inflammatory comments that you have to wade through.

Blogging to me is just like building a community where people (visitors) can express their views on a given topic and hence engage themselves in exchanging views. So, I allow comments on my blog – but it takes a lot of time from choosing genuine comments out of dozens of spams.
