I keep six frequently-used programs on the Quick-Launch toolbar.

Then I auto-hide the start menu so that it doesn’t use screen space.

I find this is the fastest way to access programs: no need to minimize windows or open new menus.

I was thinking in change to Dual monitors for some time now, but always thought maybe next month.. but with those tips maybe I finally decide to do it. Tks!

Now physically move the right hand monitor to the left of your main monitor. You still have to move the mouse pointer to the right to get to the monitor on the left.

There doesn't seem to be a solution.

Windows 7 users:

Clicking an application's title bar with the mouse wheel (aka middle button) will switch the window to the "other" monitor.

I am a lot like you. My monitor gets cluttered fast too. I will get a Geforce 9500GT or any dual DVI card or a EVGA UV+ if I have to stick with onboard graphics. I tried it with my Laptop but I want to try it with a Desktop PC.
If I am writing a web page a 1024*768 monitor is puny. I tried editing the same webpage with a HP monitor at 1280*960 and it was much easier because half of 1280*960 is 640*480 and many people in 1999 used 640*480. If I used a dual monitor setup, I can use my PC more easily. If I tried it with Windows 7, How easy my PC will be….

I use vista and have my main monitor is on the left. I then put my sidebard on the right hand side of the left screen so I can see it the majority of the time when I have just one window open, like right know as Im writing this!

@Deserttaxguy: My primary monitor is a 20″ widescreen at a resolution of 1680×1050. The second monitor is a standard 15″ LCD that I’ve had for almost 7 years. It’s at 1024×768. I actually like having the smaller monitor — when I do web development, I can move the browser over there at full screen, and see it the way most people are going to see it.

I wonder what the factors to consider are when buying that 2nd Monitor? Does it need to have a similar resolution or size? What about mixing two sizes? Does one small and one big work Ok, or should you seek to have 2 of approximately similar size?
I tried out two 22in wide screens, and its nice, but its HUGE! I cant even look around it. Maybe two smaller 19in is better?
