coming back to the merit of the discussion. its about upgrading xp to vista after all I'd like to add a few points.

1. networking (wifi)

while some screens were simplified I miss the xp Network Connections shortcut. but I've added it by creating a new folder and naming it Net.{7007ACC7-3202-11D1-AAD2-00805FC1270E}

2. hardware issues

Ive just moved from an IBM R51e laptop with 1,2 gb ram, 1,4ghz celeron, running on xp, to a brand new lenovo t61 dual core 1,8ghz, 2gb ram, running vista and honestly I do not experience a big step in performance. I guess the min 2gb ram required on the vista install box got to have to do with it.

3. new look/search/calendar/photo organizer

it has been Microsoft's strategy for a long time now to include features in their apps that have already be proven to be useful by the market. that is why some visual effects where featured in i.e. Mac OS, Solaris 10, long before and the same with search/calendar/photo/desktop sidebar (you can find these resembling Google product pretty much) or tabs in IE7 (firefox, maxthon).

Summing up moving from XP to Vista is a question of when rather then if as someone has already stated here earlier. the sooner you get used to working with it the better. when I look at xp now it looks as bulky as a mach3 razor compared ot the old excell. its when you downgrade you can feel it the most. have you tried to drive your old car after getting used to a brand new one? quick adaptation is in human's nature.

I do agree with the author even though I've not had my own copy of vista yet. As it is, i'll probably try to run vista on a VM software before installing it. And that will be when I'll upgrade my hardware.

As for this comment:
<i>"Switch to Mac - the hardware is cool and not all that more pricey than a PC. You can get a kick-a$$ iMac for under $2000."</i>

May I remind those lucky folks that have access to cheap deals that WE are not all located in the US, and therefore the rest of us may have some issue shipping in a lot more money than this to get the same. Mind that it is not a MAC issue, but simply a national market issue. As it is, and with enough knowledge, it is still cheaper to build a PC from scratch and install a windows (XP pro or vista in this case), than getting the fancy OSX.
I let alone Linux distros as the support is not as straight forward as for the two former.

Last thing PRO vista is the next generation of games should run under DirectX 10 which is VISTA only! :-|

Regards.
