I think the green jobs number will be inflated because they will say if the job doesn't create waste then it is green but in my opinion I consider green jobs the ones that work on future/next technology for energy, etc.

To Larry's comment as well I think the software industries are good and could be a good investment as well but in all reality we are already dominating that market worldwide but the Chinese are catching up but most of the problem with our software in China is that they do not let us import it and the only software programs that are US made over there are counterfeit. But I think even movies/music going to mostly digital/on demand has made a huge difference in the long run with the millions upon millions of CD's and cases being manufactured and dumped.

Josie, Interesting question indeed. What is a green job? I must admit, I think the government has missed a huge point here. What about the jobs and industries that ARE green? The ones that don't create by-product waste, pollution, etc.? There IS a GREEN industry that the US currently dominates, yet is getting no special funding. That is the SOFTWARE industry. The US is still the global leader and software is now in just about every product and touches every industry. No carbon footprint, no by-product and high-paying jobs for knowledge workers. It would be a shame in a quest to be green that we create an entire generation of workers that are low paid ditch diggers and concrete pourers to create windmills that are controlled by Chinese software.

The US should invest in growing its software industry. That is the future, not digging holes.
