Until the battery and power network can be brought
'to market' the Renault-Nissan car can be powered by
deep-cycle 'boat' batteries and wud be great for folks
with moderate range and speed requirements--like
seniors, single-parents, students, GIs near their bases, short-commuters, independent workers who
drive to a nearby jobsite and stay all day...Israel will
be a great place for these with its short highways,
moderate traffic, and warm weather...They wud work
for California and the Sunbelt, too...An 'econo-' ver-
sion with conventional batteries, manual steering,
brakes, windows, and transmission wud be very com-
petitive with petro-fueled vehicles and very easy to
maintain [no tuneups, overhauls, oil-changes]...Aaron

How "Green" are battery operated vehicles? Consider that there are already 1,022 automobiles in the United States for every 1,000 people. Yep, that's 300 million autos! In 2008 an additional 14 million were added to the pile.

Now "what if" each of these cars were electric? How many batteries would that be? How long do they last? What do you do with all those old batteries? Think CRT's in landfills!

And where does the power come to charge all those batteries? Coal? Hydro? Wind? And how much power does it take to create the new power sources?

Electric cars may sound like a great idea, but when the reality sets in we are not really making a solution we are shifting a problem.
