Jim Rogers, CEO Duke Energy:
Influence: Rogers leads the power company Duke Energy, one of the largest electric utilities in the United States.
Not many figures in the energy industry are as controversial as Duke Energy’s chief Jim Rogers. The executive has taken an aggressive stance on how utilities should move into energy efficiency but at the same time Duke still derives much of its electricity from coal. Still Duke has come up with interesting energy efficiency programs like its Save-a-Watt project (though some local regulators have been opposed to it) and is planning one of the largest smart meter and smart grid tech deployments in the U.S.
