Standards, standards, standards, especially open ones - great news that London is pushing this. That's a crucial part of the puzzle needed for this industry to take off, given the size of investment necessary, and requiring the industry to come up with standards is what government is for.

Re Teratech's point, I agree, and I think the act of standardizing an open recharging platform and creating charging stations will also push the standardization of battery pack form factor.

Not only does the EV industry need an open standard for charging networks, but it also needs an open standard for removable EV battery packs. I believe this to the point that I am actively supporting open EV battery pack standards for a simple, common format that can be adopted by all EV manufactures. To date only winfordtek.com is sharing the technical information on how a reliable, safe and simple form factor for EV battery packs should be approached. I am interested in working with a team who's goal is to standardize EV battery packs. If you know, tell me who else is working on this same goal. Thanks!

The pure electric technology must be kept open source. If some organization have the monopoly on certain EV technology i.e the batteries, that will definitely hamper the development of electric car for the masses.
