Behind the scenes of GE’s India energy lab

This weekend in the final leg of my trip to India with the Geeks on a Plane group, we stopped by GE’s research center in Bangalore. While GE works on a variety of technology at the center, I focused on the energy research that GE is conducting there.

One of the most interesting technologies at the lab was a converter device called the Wind RideThru that GE uses to work on equipment that can help wind power overcome its variability (it only generates power when the wind blows). GE is one of the largest wind turbine makers in the world.

GE also had separate sections in its lab for research of batteries, the smart grid, energy storage and renewables. I didn’t publish a bunch of the photos cause GE deemed them too sensitive. Check out my article on why I think cleantech in India is going to be huge one day.
