One of Aptera's principles is safety. It has frontal and side air bags. A tire monitoring system, traction control, a big crumple zone in the front, and a shell that can withstand 2 elephants sitting on it with no problems.

It will not be released until it meets the safety requirements that any car in the US would have to pass.

More power to them -- I totally agree. Make way as EV steers its manufacturing to safety consciousness. I would love an EV but get serious, responsible drivers are looking for safety standards to be met. If that means being classified as a car, excellent.

I applaud companies like Aptera and ZAP motors who have been designing EV with safety in mind since the very beginning. Just places them one-rung higher on the ladder. Now I will sign up to buy when they are stamped "made in the USA" Is that a lot to ask for?

My gripe with Aptera is that I think the vehicle is over engineered. They could put a motorcycle engine in this and get 50mpg, and sell it for a fraction of the cost of the all-electric vehicle.
