Why should renewable energy companies have to deal with enviro impact studies? That's absurd (unless they produce more waste than good). There are only a very few reasons why RE co's should follow a very simple guideline:
One; Take as many steps as possible to not kill plants and animals.
A; Don't position wind farms in migratory paths (they should already be known, no need for further delay for more redundant studies here).
B; Definately do not grade entire desert spaces for solar energy (use posts instead, parabolic troughs that have been successful for decades here in CA are now considered obsolete in comparision to the power tower concept by the same people who built them and they can actually use posts for thousands of mirrors on unlevel terrain!).
Two; The amount of carbon offset (and OPEC offsetting) should be considered as a waiver of minor enviro impacts such as an employee running over a turtle (that person should nevertheless be fired), or silly nimbyers (who don't understand that solar energy on a very large scale is essential to our future).
Everybody who cares about the collective future of the planet and themselves/children must take action to further this very simple message... SOLARFY THE DESERTS WITH MIRRORS! Why? Not just because of energy independence, not just to offset CO2, but to CREATE A POSITIVE ALBEDO (to make up for melting glaciers). You see, from space, they would glisten, proving that humanity can indeed STOP GW!
