Om Malik, Friday, December 7, 2007 Comments (3)

In the latest episode of The GigaOM Show, we chat with Craig Newmark, founder of Craigslist, and ask him if he has an exit plan or other new ventures in development? Craig began his online enterprise with a simple arts and technology event email list that went on to spawn Craigslist, in 1995. With its online classified success, most of the acknowledgment now resides on Jim Buckmaster, CEO & programmer of Craigslist. His next big idea? You have to watch the show to find out.

Om Malik, Thursday, November 29, 2007 Comments (9)

Wow, time does fly. We are on our 19th episode. In this week’s show we chat with Jimmy Wales, founder of Wikipedia and Wikia.

Wales believes simplicity is key to building an intuitive social network website. Which is why sites like Wikipedia and Facebook work so well in the social community. With a recent Wikia-Facebook like screenshot making its way through the web, will Wikia become like Facebook? No. Wales explains that they are working on an open source free license search engine that could launch in December.

This was a fun conversation. You can download the show in HD, QuickTime, Windows Media or Xvid format.

The GigaOM Show Episode #15 Show Notes: Seedcamp, Saul Klein and VC Jargon

Om Malik, Friday, November 2, 2007 Comments (1)

In this week’s show we explain popular VC jargon in layman’s terms and sit down with Saul Klein of Index Ventures and Seedcamp.com, to talk about networking essentials for early European start-ups and the cultural differences between US and UK start-ups.

I asked Klein for insight on eBay’s recent admission that they overpaid when they dropped $2.6 billion on Skype. Klein, the former VP of marketing at Skype, has some interesting things to say about Niklas Zennstrom’s exit from the VoIP company. (Zennstrom cofounded Joost after he left Skype.)
