GigaCal: Influencing New/Old Channels

Now that the technology conference March Madness is over, how are other mediums using that technology to achieve more?

  • Learn how to videoblog, or just collaborate on projects with other vloggers at SuperHappyVlogHouse. The gathering commences with a Creative Commons talk at 4pm on March 31, and vloggers likely will produce content into the wee morning hours of April 1 at The Hat Factory in San Francisco. The NewTeeVee team will be onsite joining the fun.
  • The Nonprofit Technology Network (N-TEN) is holding the Nonprofit Technology Conference, which focuses on “Reinventing Politics: Creating Social Change From the Ground Up,” from April 4-6 in Washington, D.C.

GigaCal: Taking the Show on the Road

Take your pick, which conversation do you want to join? The GigaTeam will be at some of the following notable events.

  • The Startup Epicenter Program from March 27-29 in Mountain View, CA aims to create a truly really “hands-on” program for entrepreneurs. The event gives founders an opportunity to learn from each other and share those startup battle stories.
  • The mobile world will be descending on CTIA, one of the largest technology events dedicated exclusively to wireless, broadband convergence. GigaOM’s Katie Fehrenbacher will be attending in Orlando, FL from March 27-29.
  • O’Reilly’s Emerging Technology Conference from March 26-29 in San Diego, CA will examine the “magic” that is driving technological changes we see in our lives.
  • If you have that itch to work on your own startup idea, Women 2.0 is holding the Women 2.0 Napkin Business Challenge. Submit your business idea on a paper napkin no larger than 7×7 inches by March 30. Winners get meetings with Tim Draper of Draper Fisher Jurvetson or Michael Moritz of Sequoia.

GigaCal: Conference Season in Full Swing

By Joey Wan | Saturday, March 17, 2007 | 11:30 AM PT | 0 comments |

With the plethora of conferences, it feels like the “March Madness” of conferences! Here are a couple notable ones:

  • This year seems to be the year of Internet-driven TV, film and broadcasting. The Video on the Net Conference will spend March 19-22 hashing out the details in San Jose, CA. Om Malik will be speaking on a panel on Monday and sharing some experiences from NewTeeVee.

GigaCal: Venture Outside the Tech Circle

While all the other techies are at South By Southwest next week, strike out on your own and play in some other circles.

  • Craigslist Foundation is hosting a Nonprofit Night on Tuesday March 13 at 111 Minna in San Francisco. Entrepreneurs’ knack for resourcefulness also comes in handy for nonprofits, and you’ll probably hear some interesting operating models.
  • Yelp Elite Parties have become so notorious that they have transcended being a tech event and have graduated to full party status. The next one is on Wednesday March 14 starting at 8pm at Mighty, 119 Utah St in San Francisco. Not Yelp Elite? Psst, it’s open to the public after 10pm.

GigaCal: Same Geeks, Different Cities

  • Flickr 333 – If you didn’t get a limelight spot on one of San Francisco’s Chinese New Year Parade floats, satisfy your desire to be photographed by the Flickrazzi at Flickr’s 3rd birthday party at Yueba Buena tomorrow, March 3, from 6-9pm.
  • San Francisco Women on the Web (SFWoW) has been gathering tech-minded women together since before the dotcom bust. On Wed, March 7 from 5:30-8pm, they are organizing a private networking party, Career Advancement Network for Women on the Web (CANWOW) at the Bubble Lounge.
  • Tired of the same Bay Area tech geek crowd? Well, join them in Austin, TX at the South By Southwest Music Conference and Festival for the southern version of our Bay Area tech gatherings from March 9-14.
