Ten things I miss most about New York

Coltrane on the decks, a muted foghorn somewhere in the background - oh it is yet another foggy Sunday in San Francisco! A perfect time for me to think about my beloved New York, the crazy, erratic and energetic city I left behind to come out west. Still with too much time on my hands, I decided to make a list of things I miss the most about New York (not necessarily in that order.) Of course the list does not include the in-your-face, hypersonic, and self obsessed work culture – for god sake, that’s what makes NYC the *big town* - don’t you think? I am also leaving out 210+ different accents, which make NYC the melting pot.

1. Cabbies who think they are a reincarnation of late F-1 champion Ayrton Senna.

2. Hacks, who don’t want to discuss Bushisms with you, and then charge you $15 for a 1.5 mile ride!

3. Starbucks-person who does not say – ‘did you have a nice weekend?’

4. Page Six baby! (Actually Gawker is smarter! But still)

5. The stinky smelly subway, which despite the fare hike is cheap. Of course subterranean blues are for free if you tend to hit

6. Bra-optional days; every day supermodels.

7. A glass of whiskey at 3 am in the morning, a failed attempt to talk with a six foot blonde at 4 in the morning.

8. Tamarind and SteakFrites, and not necessarily in that order.

9. Basement Bhangra at SOBs.

10. Brunch with friends at Café Mogador every Sunday.

(On the not missed list is one item – too many frigging brits that the whole place seems like London Lite.)
