So, how was the conference everyone?

I went in ’02 and ’03, and am dying to know what happened at Battle of the Geeks this year.

Thanks a lot guys. You just blew up my BS meter. Consider the following seriously, as I have a specialist degree in ancient languages from Oxford.

Obviously, ‘codi’ comes from the dialect of Latin spoken after the birth of Christ. This may not seem like a big difference, but when the “astronomers” saw the intensity of the star marking Jesus’ birth, they changed several facets of the language, since it fulfilled a prophecy (but not about Jesus). ‘Codi’ here means ‘to fish’, according to most linguists best hypotheses. Of course, it could have also been taken from the very early Latin, in which it would have meant ‘big water’.

In case you haven’t caught it yet, the above is a lie. Here’s my real post:

IT’S A F***** JOKE! Veni, vidi, vici: ancient adage or something. Veni, vidi, codi: funny play on words, not to be overthought or overinterpreted.

This reminds me of the period between the release of Halo 1 and Halo 2. Fans super-over-analyzed everything Bungie said, which lead to incorrect trains of thought.

Let me guarantee you, there is no hidden message about a new product encoded by Steve himself in the shirt’s message.

Sheesh. Thanks for wasting ten minutest of my life.

Umm…I think most of you are overthinking this. It’s just a cute play on words from the famous line “Veni vini vici,” except replacing “vici” with “codi” to express that it’s more or less a giant nerd conference.

I enjoyed your disscussion of texts tremendously, thanks. However, I would bet the T-shirt designers intented, “I coded.” Your interpretation is a great example of their unintneded–not consequences–perhaps, unintended (not to be redundant) Freudian slip.

There is almost a great Latin pun here.

There is no verb “caud-” or “cod-” that I (or my Latin dictionary) know. The best way to convey “I write code” would use “notare” (as Suetonius and Quinitilian did) So “veni, vidi, notavi” is “I came, I saw, I wrote code”.

However, …

The root “caud-” (and written later as “cod-”) involves “tail”. So “Veni. Vidi codas” might mean “I came. I saw you pricks”.
