Granted, August will make for an interesting and perhaps an exciting conference. With regards to more current events, there appears to be a growing consensus that April may well be a push for some new or improved products. Is there any speculation or inside talk as to what may be unveiled?

It has to be delayed for the Pro Macs to be announced. It will also give more time for the developers to be ready to announce their pro apps as Universal Binaries. The WWDC is a great place to bring new Apple Pro products out. The real question is: what will they be called? 'Power' is history. Steve said that they want 'Mac' in their product names, so I can see the iBook becoming 'MacBook', PowerMac becoming 'Mac Pro' and the Xserve becoming the 'MacServe'. Or similar. Whatever happens, it is a great time to be a Mac addict.

To answer your Question, Apple is looking for more market share and if you noticed they are demoing 10.5 which will compete with Microsoft's Longhorn. Consequently their both going to be available around the same time.

Apple doesn't want to give Microsoft to early of a lead on what's to come and it's strategy has been to keep Microsoft in the dark. So that they have less of a chance of copying Apples next and greatest Os.

If Apple Succeeds they will have the ability to take some of Microsoft's market share away.

After all the Transition to Intel will be done by then. So expect big things to come when apple releases 10.5 it could be far different then the one demoed at WWDC.

"Leopard" is an ugly word. If we have run out of cats with elegant names, it is time to retire this nomenclature. I suppose it will be milked dry until 10.9 Cheetah breaks ground for XI.

Future Announcements: Who really knows for certain? I’ve been reading a lot of articles from various sources and my assessment is that software and hardware vendors are in a virtual standoff. Developers want a broader comfort zone for their development efforts while Apple needs more time to refine their OS load-sets for the Intel chip. As a result, Apple will no doubt have made some of these improvements in place by mid-summer with a slightly more refined OS together with improvements to their hardware offerings. SJ is already licking his wounds over the inferior 4x Superdrive in the current iterations of MacBooks so look for a new 8x drive by August if not sooner. Since the SF conference Apple has made several advances in the Intel line at a rate of about one very 28-days. By August it’s likely that Apple and its vendors will have more universal apps and a full range of MacBooks, iBooks (as we knew them) and presumably an entry level Desktop or two.
