I have “research” that backs this up, based on a sample size of one, namely my 13 year old son. He tells me he wants an iPod Touch most of all, because he can have games (once they start becoming available) as well as his iPod, AND the Internet all in one device. You see, his middle school is a hot spot, and he loves games, he loves the iPod, and he loves Wikipedia.

What an insightful article. “The DS is for games. The iphone is not. So people will buy the DS for games and the iphone for phone unless the iphone has better games.” I’d love to see you guys get a leg up on Ars/TUAW, but you’re going to need something a little more thought-provoking and a little less ridiculously obvious to do that.

Please don’t waste people’s time with these goofy “will the iphone destroy the PS3/the automobile/television” articles. The iPhone’s chances of “pummeling” the DS are about the same as the chances of the DS pummeling the iPhone, or the electric drill making the hammer obsolete.

To even have the ability to think, even for an iota of a second, that the iPhone could even begin to hurt the DS, is symptomatic of the hubris that Apple fans are infamous and despised for.

(For the record, I’m a huge Apple fan, but I try to keep my feet on the ground and stay realistic about things.)

A phone lives in much more personal space, as a primary communication device with very personal information on it.
