Dude...this is funny and surprising.

I doubt this data is 100% true...this may not reflect all data from all Apple devices (iphone, ipod) etc..

cmfnyc,

Net Applications defines "Mac" as the combination of "Mac OS" (Motorola architecture machines) and MacIntel (Intel architecture machines). "iPhone" is listed as a separate OS that's not included in the "Mac" total (in October it was .33%).

Since the Fortune article revolves around desktop OSes it seemed fine to me to leave the iPhone out of it. However, even with the iPhone included Apple dropped from 8.55 in Sep to 8.54 in Oct. In other words, there was a small drop for Apple in October whether you include the iPhone or not. My point is that Apple's dropped in months before, yet the trend (one month does not make a trend) is irrefutably upward.

It's extremely important to note that the Apple drop we're referring to here is .02% (or .01% if you include the iPhone). So small it could easily be covered by the margin of error in the data itself. Yet another reason not to go nuts trying to analyze this stuff.

Does the share include iPhone & iPod touch data? If not, that could be a factor. I find myself spending more of my personal web time on my Touch instead of my desktop. If others are doing the same, it might skew share data.
