It was too grand a vision to be anything cohesive except by specific implementations. i.e. RFID already is working; the OnStar service for vehicles sending email, etc.

No, it’s really not. Motorola was talking about this same thing several years ago with their “Intelligence Everywhere” marketing initiative. Apple might actually be able to make it happen, though.
