I think that Apple will probably come out with a dedicated video device sometime in the future, probably with a 16:9 widescreen display and longer battery life. But, the 5G iPod is as stunning, feature packed and innovative as ever; it's gonna be a big seller.

iPod will always remain Music-centric. When iPod Photo came out, it was music first, photo as the side-feature. Games were there as a bonus, and now video playback's there as an extra feature. It's all about the music.

Video on iPod became necessary because now Apple can sell TV Shows and Music Video, and because now we can watch these video on the iMac with a remote. Video on iPod is a natural extension of that: Watch your video, wherever you want.

Good analysis. I find my new iPod to be a wonderful gadget.

Although I take issue with those who find the screen exceedingly small (it's fine for what it is), no one should lose sight of the unit being a quality music player and convenient storage device.

Then again, I also love the ROKR, so what do I know?
