I own a MacBook Pro and the battery life and even after installing the firmware patches I was only able to get just a few hours per charge and that is if I was lucky. I’m a professional photographer so this just didn’t cut it for me so my eventual solution was to get an external laptop battery from Novuscell Batteries. So far, no regrets because I’m now getting an extra 12+ hours of battery runtime per charge on my MBP.

there are cheaper batteries for MacBook Pro available from Amazon & other, starting at about $55, are any of the cheaper batteries worth buying? disappointed in life of $129.00 apple batteries.

Out of warranty but under AppleCare? Apple replaces the bad/defective battery.
Out of warranty without AppleCare? You’ll have to buy a new battery ($129 USD).
