I’ve had my macbook for a little less than a year, and it’s case has cracked three times around both the magnet and the corners where the magnets hit the keyboard.

Thus, recently I’ve been using a marware sleeve, as well as a speck container, and it has yet to recrack. It’s only been a month, but thus far I am pleased.

If only apple hardware were as great as it claims to be…

Anything to protect my MacBook, this thing is falling apart on me. I mean for that money I would expect something that lives up to the claim of being a roads warrior’s best friend and not an expensive paperweight.

Beware of Speck cases…my Macbook also turned pink from one. I switched to a memory foam cover because the hard shell just wasn’t protective enough. I chose an isis cover from http://www.isisdei.com/ So far I really like it.

I had to give up using my SeeThru Hard Shell after a couple of months.
!: it adds a lot to the weight.
2: It greatly restricts the angle of the screen – this is major.

However, I have it stored for any occasions when I need extra care. There is a stick on scratch protector which sems a better option.

I’m looking into getting a protective shell for my macbook…. be careful though, I’ve heard that the colored shells can stain the white macbooks. My friend had a red case from Speck, and now it is a little pink, especially in the places it gets the hottest, like on the bottom.

I bought my wife a SeeThru Hard Shell for her MacBook a few months after she got it. She’s notorously tough on notebooks, though this one she seems to love better than any of it’s PC predecessors.

Not only does it protect the surfaces of the laptop (and I suspect would help some small amount in case of a drop), it also makes the MacBook pink which was really the selling point for her.

When she’s transporting it, she uses a pretty much bog-standard ladies attache bag with a padded insert for carrying whatever laptop you have handy. So far, so good.

When the time comes for me to upgrade from my eMac to a MacBook, I’ll be quick to invest in the same sort of protection, especially if I get into a MBP.

I managed to get a dent in the corner of my MBP by dropping it on the zipper of the laptop sleeve it was in. I’d had it all of a week; I felt like such a dip for doing it, too. I switched to an STM bag – the sleeve-in-padded bag design is very durable and still quite light.
