No, contacts from itunes will not sync with the Pre. Just found that out unfortunately :(

I just sync’ed my pre with iTunes. All the music, playlists, and podcasts transferred. I don’t have any videos or ring tones. I checked the box to transfer contacts, but I cannot find them on the pre.

Right now it looks like the only way to sync contacts from the Mac is with MissingSync.

Just keep a copy of your old itunes until they can patch it. I’m still using an older version of itunes because I see nothing wrong with it and the new features aren’t that great.

I wouldn’t suspect that Apple will raise too many eyebrows over multi-touch. Palm is confident in their own patents. It could also be argued that Apple may just be a tad scared to bring up patents against Palm, given the amout of features we see in Apple products that originated from those developed by Palm.

I do agree, the next version of iTunes will block Pre’s sync capabilities. Sad as this may be, its just how Apple rolls.

As for DRM – every piece of music I ever bought from iTunes was burned and ripped into DRM free mp3s. Surely people will not repurchase these songs?

The article is short on details. Says it only skips DRM files and (of course) apps. But what about bookmarks, contacts, calendar items, etc.? Oh, and podcasts, videos, ringtones, and more?

My understanding of the Pre is that contacts, etc. live in the Cloud (possibly in several places), not on a “base” computer. If it has more or less “full” iTunes connectivity than that’s not true.

Somebody needs to plug a Pre into iTunes and report exactly what can by synced; this is very intriguing.

Interesting, I can see Apple trying to stop this with an upgrade of some sort.
