I’ve been happily using Open Office for over a year. Maybe close to two.

Is a new splash screen a reason to upgrade? ;)

Uh-uh.

But the ability to open up pptx, docx — that makes it a “gotta have it!”

I have been using OpenOffice since the 3.0 beta first came out on my Intel Macbook and my Intel iMac. OpenOffice has been stable, quick, and has given me no compatibility issues with my co-workers who use Windows and MS Office (especially Excel and PowerPoint) extensively. Word documents also present no problems. I appreciate the fact that the “track changes” feature is perfectly compatible with MS Office. My co-workers’ documents are legible and usable without any problems, and the documents that I create are usable by all of my co-workers. This is an amazing piece of software. I do not see any need to purchase MS Office on the Mac. Nice work OpenOffice!

how does this compare to neooffice? I’ve had problems importing excel sheets into NeoOffice with certain formula’s causing errors or not computing…

The last version of OpenOffice was terrible for Mac IMO. I think it was a lot better for the PC. Anyone have any feedback about the new version?

I thought Microsoft said they WILL continue to support VB macros? I know they at first said they wouldn’t, then that changed after the reaction of users.
