I was dreaming only last night about a similar idea! Except my thoughts covered not just colours, but textures, from bright sparkly, through pastel, pure bright, dull, crackly, dirty, patterned. I see music in colours, patterns, textures, and opacity. But.. maybe that’s too many options for the average user :)

I agree X is intensity and Y is sad-happy, but everyone knows that Blue is sad (why do you think it’s called ‘the blues’?) and Red is a happy (or ‘danger/exitement’) colour. However, based on this – green must mean intensely depressed/suicidal, and the software should automatically send an email with your contact details to The Samaritans if it sees you playing too many of these songs…
