Apple didn’t lead with DisplayPort – see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DisplayPort. Apple did lead with a differen version to add cost for Apple users.

Now if Apple would just do something about the other big-and-clumsy connector on laptops–the Ethernet connector. It’d be great to see something as clever as MagSafe but for networking. With only four connections required, it shouldn’t be that hard to design and an adapter could handle situations where legacy connectors exist. And it’d be great if Apple would released it under the same free license as this mini DisplayPort.

It’d be another illustration of “Apple Leads, Others Follow.”
