How do you remove the battery -- I opened the door in the center back and that's where my chips (memory? motherboard?) were. Where is the battery?

I really am kind of disappointed at how much the G4 12 inch heats up. I bought mine a couple months after they came out with battery numbers A1022 and since I've had it, I've always had to use it with a desk fan blowing into it because it just gets so stinking hot. I really don't get why Apple doesn't simply replace all the batteries for people who bought G4's anyways considering that they've had 2 exchanges already. It's obvious the design has flaws in terms of heat retention but the fact that these older battery designs seem to have an achillies' heel with heat as well, you would think that Apple would try to be safe by simply replacing all older batteries with hopefully more efficient and hopefully less heat generating ones.

I called the apple number, after waiting on hold for a couple of hours...I finally spoke to a rep., he started out by telling me that mine did not qualify yet I found online where it did. He then all of a sudden said wait, I just had a bunch come through and it does. He proceeded to transfer me to another that then told me that it did not. I told him my further issues with it heating up and burning mine, and my kids lap while using it. I have an ibook G4 mind you. He informed me that hence, my "Laptop" is "Not made" to be used on my lap. Well, fine...what is it going to do to my table, ruin the finish...or better yet "Cause a fire"...But, I have a case number that says it is safe...imagine that, an A1061 with the battery being 6c545. Now what??? Please advise...

I have repeatedly tried my serial numbers over the past 3 days, and the web site keeps rejecting them. The battery serial numbers clearly fall in the specified range. What is most bizarre is that the web site claims that neither of my iBook G4 computers are eligible. How can that be? I own two iBook G4's. They use the affected batteries. That is all they need to know!
