What is the circular opening to the left of the Sleep light on the front of the MacBook? Any Ideas?

Disappointed that there’s no Intel IBook. I can’t afford $2k for a laptop. Everyone said this was the Sure Thing so I held off at Christmastime. Now I don’t know what to do, get an iBook now or wait who knows how long. Very sad.
