I have yet to buy AppleCare since they do not cover "external" damage. I carry my 17" portable in a padded backpack and am very careful about dropping it or leaving it in harsh conditions. For the amount of time I spend on it. I have had several laptops, desktops, laserprinters, etc. (all mac) and I have found that if is going to be a problem, it usually pops-up before the end of the warranty. I am sure AppleCare has saved some people... I am just here to say that the sky will not fall in if you don't buy it. I was always taught that if you take care of your things, they will take care of you.

iPhone 3G replaced *FIVE* times under AppleCare for various hardware failure issues. SOOOOO glad I had it, and I NEVER buy an Apple product without it.

Had an entire Mac Pro replaced because of problems the Apple Store couldn't solve while they had my machine for over a month. AppleCare has saved my arse and wallet enough to pay for itself over and over.

Skip it. I bought applecare on my iPhone, and now they are denying me coverage. The "genius" on the phone admitted that there appears to have been a data entry error at the time that my "apple care" account was set up (they say that my status is impossible -- 2 years phone support, but no hardware support). However, even though they acknowledge that there must have been some sort of mistake on their part. They have told me that they will not honor the warranty. Don't buy applecare, it's not worth the paper it's printed on.

I believe applecare has it's up's and down.

It is great for those who run into problems which are rather rutien or caused by the manufacture.

But, It is not worth it in my option unless you feel like you need techniqual support. It does not cover "accident protection" which is the main reason one would have a problem. On my last few laptops over the last few years, the only problem I have ever has is with the monitor screen breaking. I am not overly rough on my computer but, the screens on any computer can be very delicate. This is a huge expense witch with paying so much more for an apple computer. They should offer accident protection.

Seriously, when was the last time you heard an apple getting a virus or malfunctioning otherwise? It happens but, not as often as a PC. Therefore, yes you may have to take a risk. But, you may end up wasting more of your money by purchasing apple protection than saving it.

It is not worth it. Unless you have trouble working or figuring out your own technical problems. Since, you found this site. I am sure you will be fine without it.

Ps. They have no review section on their website. Wounder why? (nor for their computers but, i think they are great)

its totally dependent on what computer you have. My macbook pro hasnt had an problems and its about 2 years old. However, (i work at a mac repair shop) the macbook....that apple care for most users was WELLLLL worth it. paying 249 for the applecare more than paid itself off when a logic board went out. that part could be from 500-800 depending on what kind of computer it is. for the price of the computer, i wouldnt recommend not having it...with thousands of little components in a little machine....computers or electronics in general are farrrr from perfect.

I bought AppleCare on my 15" MacBook Pro (the first line with Intel Core 2 Duo processors) and I had to get my logic board replaced as well as my keyboard/trackpad unit and a defunct battery (probably under manufacturer's). From my point of view, it's saved me money, but certainly, it could be a fruitless expense.

i am a student and i'm pricing out a new macbookpro - the discount on the icare isn't 75% off. Not huge by any means. It totals $239.00, which is still quite expensive in my book. Did you have some other discount applied or did you subtract the $150.00 discount on the system from the cost of your icare?
