A number of things need to be fixed SMSing - as a first move, I'd suggest being able to delete individual messages in a conversation (sometimes you only need one bit of detail and not a whole conversation) by pressing and holding like you do in the main iPhone screen.

Another major flaw and a definite shortcut if fixed is the inability to click on a location in Calendar and have it bring it up in Google Maps. Given the integration everywhere else, it seems odd that this is missing.

In reply to Nick wanting a quick way to narrow down searches... Download the free Google app. Load this up and start typing a contact name, or subject line etc and it will show you threads, contacts and email on the fly. Quite cool.

it's rather sad, but one feature I'm still looking for (a hold over from my winmo6 days) is the ability to search through my email by typing the name of a sender, or subject or something like that. My email is pretty crowded, and the ability to pare it down to more quickly find what I need is still lacking.

I also wish there were a quicker way of initiating the Airplane mode, or other settings. I'd love to see something like quickgold (for jailbroken iphones) come to the iphone legitimately and expand the ability to get right at whatever it is the user needs.

The trick double-clicking the home button also works while the iPhone/iPod Touch is in standby mode.
You'll be shown player controls below the clock on the unlock screen.

I wrote a small post about it:
