I tried this with my iPhone 3GS. It doesn't work. Any suggestions? I'm running 3.1.3 software version of iPhone. Any thoughts here? Help!

It IS possible to tether with the iphone on AT&T via USB/BT/wifi if you your iphone is JAILBROKEN + you install MyWi (or PDAnet, or any of the other tethering enabling apps)

What's up in the air is if AT&T can detect it and will charge you if they do. People claim they've been using it for months, I personally have been using it for 2 months now. What I want to know for people who've been using it 3+ months, is what their monthly data bandwidth usage is.

This is a BS posting...tethering is not available in US for the iphone...only international.

Yeah I just spoke to an Atnt customer representative today about tethering and they said that apple and AT&T had an agreement to BLOCK all iPhone 3Gs from tethering... Looks like AT&T is being a beeotch

@bl87 Brilliant…except, what do you think we’re all here talking about if it’s so easy?

The pages you link to make it seem simple, but imagine for a second that step 2, “Slide the Internet Tethering switch to On” can’t be done because your carrier has worked with Apple to remove this switch! That’s what everyone here is dealing with.

This is obvious from the original article, and from the second paragraph where it states that he is on AT&T, and had to spoof a “carrier updated file” for the “tethering” button to appear.

So, it IS “an issue” to tether your phone, since for many people the option doesn’t even exist. They need to do a hack on their phone to see the tether switch, and if their accept a software update from Apple, they will likely lose the button again. The current hack for AT&T 3.12 OS users at 9to5Mac says the hack is”pretty hardcore, as they mess with your iPhone’s baseband. That definitely means that they fall into the “USE AT YOUR OWN RISK” category.”

Tethering is not easy at all carriers.

Well guys, i hope this Link on the “Apple” website will put your minds at ease that it is not an issue to tether your phone, especially when they show you how to do it… *even states additional fees “may” apply. so if you get told no then you can stop. until then :::

If you look at AT&T’s website for tethering you’ll see that it isn’t available for the U.S.A yet. They made the print on this extremely small and faded compared to everything else on there.
